A few years ago, I met my first soul friend. I remember where she was sitting when I first saw her and what she was wearing (a yellow zip up hoodie). In that instance, I knew she was going to be someone special in my life. We spent the next two weeks together as we both prepared for our missions with Heart’s Home. She went to Vienna and I went to Brazil. We wrote letters. Every letter I opened from her would bring me the same joy and peace that I felt in those few days I spent in her presence.
Over two years later, we saw each other again. It felt like no time had passed. She was everything I remembered. It was so easy to be next to her and I felt like I could breath. I can tell her anything because I know that even if I don’t explain it well, she gets me. She is my soul friend. A special type of friend that we don’t exactly choose, but accept as a gift.
Last night I was looking into a woman called Elisabeth Leseur and came across a writing about her soul friendship with Soeur Goby. I delighted to know that two holy women saw the same in each other that ML and I see in each other. They only spent two days in one another’s presence and would only write letters to each other. In one letter Soeur Goby wrote,
Have you met any of your soul friends? I have this beautiful vision of all these soul friends scattered around the world. We’re all connected and only in special moments will we get to meet. Maybe for a minute or a day or for years. It is really is quite special!
